It's Time for a Fashion Revolution

This week, April 23-29, is Fashion Revolution Week 2018; an important annual event that is growing in size and reach year on year. It is the focus of the Fashion Revolution movement (a year-round campaign) that wants to change the way that clothes are produced and worn by asking questions such as “Who made my clothes?”

“We are people from all around the world who make the fashion industry work. We are the people who wear clothes. And we are the people who make them.”

By prompting both the garment industry and global consumers to ask questions about their clothes – where the fabric comes from, how they are made, and their purpose and life-time of use (which may only be one “season” before being relegated to the back of a wardrobe) – it is hoped that meaningful change can take place across the entire value chain.

“We believe in a fashion industry that values people, the environment, creativity and profit in equal measure.”

We have been excited to watch Fashion Revolution grow in recent years, and love the power and international reach of their #whomademyclothes campaign across social media. If more shoppers considered this simple question before making a purchase then perhaps we would be a step closer to a world in which people buy less but buy better, people and the environment are put first, and the fashion industry can lead by example in terms of transparency.

We are proud of our supply chain and who we work with to make our shorts; we’ve written about many of the steps in our process and the people involved, from the fabric that we use, the illustrators who create our prints, the forward thinking printers who bring them to life, and the small factory that cut and sew our sustainable swimwear. We feel that we can answer the #whomademyclothes question, and we welcome people asking questions because if there’s anything that we can’t answer to yours or our own satisfaction then it highlights something that we can improve. Few of us are perfect, but by putting ourselves out there we hope to show that we are trying and, most importantly, want to do even better.

This is Linda, she makes your shorts. She is a true Tailor of Sunshine.
